It’s important to determine the cause of your knee pain so that you can rectify it appropriately. More than likely, this task is easier than you may think.

To understand what causes kneeling chair knee pain and what to do about it, keep reading.

This article fully dives into the problem so that you can use your kneeling chair more comfortably.

Understanding Kneeling Chair Knee Pain

There are quite a few misconceptions about kneeling chairs swirling around.

One of the most common misconceptions is that kneeling chairs always result in painful knees and shins.

Although kneeling chairs can indeed hurt your knees and shins, they should not hurt if you are using them correctly or if you have a high-quality chair.

In other words, most kneeling chair knee pain is not due to the fact the chair is a kneeling chair.

Instead, it’s more likely that you either selected a bad model or you aren’t using it the way it ought to be used.

Most notably, poor padding, incorrect posture, and too small of a chair all lead to knee pain.

Let’s take a closer look at each one of these causes now.

Potential Cause #1 Of Kneeling Chair Knee Pain: Poor Padding

The number one reason that kneeling chairs hurt is that they are often made from poor materials and include poor padding.

If you do not select a high-quality kneeling chair, you will likely experience a lot of discomfort and pain because the padding around your knees and shins simply does not provide the support they need from the hard chair beneath.

At the same time, having too much padding can be uncomfortable as well. It isn’t quite painful in the way that too little padding is.

That being said, too much padding makes your legs feel hot, sweaty and stuck.

Especially when you sit for a long period, too thick of padding is anything but comfortable.

Kneeling Chair Knee Pain

If you are experiencing knee pain from your kneeling chair, first consider the padding material.

If you feel that the chair is uncomfortable from the get-go, there is likely too little padding.

Invest in a higher-quality chair so that your shins and knees get the support they need.

Selecting a high-quality product will also help to fight any pain associated with thick foam.

Most high-quality foams are designed so that they support your legs without completely engulfing them.

Potential Cause #2 Of Kneeling Chair Knee Pain: Incorrect Posture

Incorrect posture will also make your knees hurt.

For example, leaning too far forward and putting undue pressure on your knees will be painful after a while.

Likewise, the placement of the knee pads will impact your posture and the comfort of the chair.

If either you are sitting incorrectly or your knee pads fall at an awkward point on your legs, knee pain is likely to happen.

By adjusting the posture or placement of the knee pads, you should eradicate this problem.

To fix this incorrect posture problem, pay attention to the positioning of the knee pads.

Ideally, your shin should lay across the pad evenly, but your knees should not make any contact. If your knee is making contact, you are not in the correct posture.

First, make sure that you are sitting on the chair correctly.

In some cases, you might be sitting too far back, which is forcing your knees to sit directly on top of the padding.

Scoot forward so that your knees are not directly on the pad.

Depending on your height, it may be impossible to adjust your posture. Most kneeling chairs are not designed to be adjustable to your height.

If you are finding you cannot sit correctly because of your height, you will have to buy a new chair.

Be diligent in considering dimensions so that you don’t run into the same problem.

Potential Cause #3 Of Kneeling Chair Knee Pain: Too Small

Most tall people have bad experiences with kneeling chairs because the chairs are not adjustable.

For very tall individuals, it can be difficult to get in the right postures.

If you are crammed in your seat and feel too big in it to be comfortable, the seat is likely too small.

Unfortunately, there is little you can do about this problem.

You can purchase a new kneeling chair, but you will need to diligently look at the dimensions to ensure it is right for your height.

Many tall individuals have to forego a kneeling chair altogether since they are simply not adjustable.

Kneeling Chair Knee Pain

Don’t Sit For Too Long

Even if you use the solutions above, your knees and legs will hurt if you sit in a kneeling chair for too long.

After all, bodies are not designed to be sitting for long periods. Instead, they are better suited for movement and activity.

With that in mind, don’t sit for too long.

Take short walking breaks throughout the day so that your legs get the blood flow they need.

This will help to minimize any further kneeling chair pain you are experiencing.

Final Thoughts

If you are experiencing kneeling chair pain, the pain is likely caused by a poor chair, poor posture, or poor sizing.

Figuring out why your knees hurt will help you adjust your seat so that you have the most comfortable experience possible.

Don’t forget to get up and walk throughout the day either.

Even if you have the best quality kneeling chair, your knees will likely still hurt if you don’t get up and move every once in a while.

Get your blood flowing and give your knees a break!
