Try sitting and then standing, or shifting weight on the chair, so you can carefully listen and locate where the squeaking is coming from.

Once you find the source, you can continue with the fixing process.

Examine the hardware

Turn over the chair and look at all of the nuts, bolts, screws. Are they all in place? Using a screwdriver, tighten any loose screws.

In fact, there is no harm in tightening all the screws again.

Screw often loosen themselves over time and the squeaky noises can come from parts of the chair that are rubbing together due to this.

How To Fix A Squeaky Chair

Use a lubricant

Rust is a common reason for squeaking parts in chairs. When there is moisture in the air, it can eventually cause a build-up of rust.

All you need to do is apply some lubricating oil to the mechanisms.

Spray the lubricating oil on screws, bolts, and nuts to reduce any possible friction and facilitate smoother movement.

A better way to ensure that the oil reaches all the parts properly is to spray some oil on a soft cloth and then rub it properly wherever required.

One good lubricating oil that does this job is WD40. Try to regularly lubricate your chair parts to prevent rust from happening in the first place.

Check the springs and wheels

This squeaking problem is often observed when you lean back on your chair. If this is the case, it's time to check the springs.

Applying oil to the seat tension spring can help you loosen it.

Also, check the wheels and spray some silicone spray over them to ensure smooth running.
